Around 1,700 homes in Auckland are still without power after last week's freak storm knocked out the lights to 120,000 homes.
Auckland Emergency Management says they're liaising with the Police, Fire and Rescue New Zealand, Community Patrols New Zealand and the New Zealand Defence Force to help to families worst affected.
Spokesman John Dragicevich says they checked on 5,000 homes over the weekend to help families needing assistance.
"The key focus for us at the moment is welfare," he says. "Aucklanders have come together to help their neighbours and their communities, it's been quite uplifting."
High winds and thunderstorms are forecast for the Auckland region today.
