Aaradhna, KINGS sweep Pacific Music Awards

Aaradhna and KINGS were the big winners at last night's Pacific Music Awards in Auckland.

South Auckland-rapper KINGS crossed the Vodafone Events Centre stage four times, picking up awards for Best Pacific Urban Artist, Best Producer, the Radio Airplay Award and Best Pacific Male Artist.

Samoan-Indian artist, Aaradhna and Samoan-Maori artist, KINGS. 

Samoan-Indian songstress Aaradhna also took home four awards including Best Pacific Album for Brown Girl, Best Pacific Music Video, Best Pacific Song and Best Pacific Female Artist.

She says the awards get better every year.

"I'm overwhelmed by the talent, it's awesome to be with my peeps. Every set that's played so far, I love it," she says. 

Aaradhna's fellow winners from last night's awards include Opetaia Foa'i.

Foa'i, the frontman and founder of Pacific group Te Vaka, was presented with a Special Recognition Award for the group's contributions to the soundtrack of the box-office hit, Moana.

A clearly emotional Foa'i says ever since taking the Moana job, he has felt a responsibility to represent the Pacific well. 

"These are my people here and they'd be hanging me out to dry if I didn't do a good job," he says. 

Foa'i's daughter Olivia also won an award last night for Best Pacific Language Song for Tulou Tagaloa, also from Moana. 

Three Houses Down featuring 11-year-old sensation General Fiyah finished the night with two awards for their hit Love & Affection. They took home Best Pacific Group and the People's Choice Award.

Emerging Niuean artist Tommy Nee was awarded with the Phillip Fuemana Award for most promising Pacific artist. 

After a nervous and heartfelt acknowledgement in Niuean he promised to keep writing and performing Pacific music. 

The night ended with the presentation of the Pasifika Lifetime Achievement award to Cook Island legend Brother Love.
