A Christian protest group will gather outside Parliament this afternoon to pray to reinstate mention of Jesus in the Parliamentary prayer.
Submissions are open for a new karakia for Parliament, but Speaker of the House, The Right Honourable Trevor Mallard, stopped mentioning the Queen and Jesus last year.
Pastor Ross Smith, from protest group Jesus for New Zealand, says Mr Mallard will announce an official decision regarding the prayer today.
He says he expects some Christian MPs to attend the rally.
"We have a lot of Pacific Island MPs in government who are believers in Jesus Christ. The primary motivator and organiser for this day is Tofilau Kerupi Tavita...he has contacts, and some of those MPs have insinuated to him that they will be there."
The rally kicks off around midday outside the Beehive.
