Two trade apprentices are heading to Samoa this week to build cyclone-resistant homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Carpentry apprentice Paea Vakalahi and electrical trainee Andrew Leota, will spend three weeks working on 100 homes in Upolu and another 30 in Savai'i.

Skills New Zealand spokesperson Isaac Liava'a says sending Pacific apprentices to help out in the islands, provides more than just an opportunity to apply their trades skills.

"We give these opportunities to our Pacific students who are here in New Zealand to also reconnect with their whanau or aiga," he says.
