Newly-appointed festival director Seituli Terri Leo-Mauu says the full-day event to encourage young leaders will include motivational speakers and performance workshops.

"It's important to bring the leaders together before Polyfest," she says. "It gives us time to encourage them, to give them the skills they might need to get their groups started and at the same time it brings them together as leaders."

Stage co-ordinator and Niuean artist Malcolm Lakatani will be running a session on voice projection, audience participation and engagement.

Leo-Mauu says it's about encouraging friendly competition.

"Teaching them about school spirit and keeping the essence of competition, but doing it in a good way."

The  Leaders Day will be held from 9am to 3pm next Wednesday at MIT's Manukau Campus.
