Niue Tourism has launched an online auction of ukuleles with proceeds to help Niue's students learn to play the ukulele.

Some of the ukuleles feature the signature of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and artwork by her partner Clarke Gayford.

Niuean painter John Pule, one of the Pacific's most celebrated artists, has also lent his skills.

Niue Tourism CEO Felicity Bollen says the auction is a good lead up to the annual Niuekulele Festival.

"We've asked famous celebrities to either paint or decorate on the ukulele and they'll be auctioned off on Trade Me," she says.

"Some of the celebrities include the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, her lovely partner, Clarke Gayford...Sir Graham Henry, and John Pule of course always supports us by putting his beautiful art on the back of the ukuleles."

This year's NiueKulele Festival run from March 16 to 20.
