The Wellington Pasifika Business Network has acknowledged women's organisation P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Inc for their service to the community over the last 42 years.

P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Inc is a non-government organisation promoting Pasifika women across Aotearoa since its establishment in 1976.

President Tofilau Bernadette Pereira was in Wellington last night to receive the Special Community Recognition Award at the 2nd Wellington Pasifika Business Awards.

Tofilau says she's humbled to receive the award on behalf of the organisation.

"The award is testament to the hard work of our founders and former presidents and many of our members who have passed on."

"It is a proud moment for P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Inc, our past and current members, our 17 branches across the country, on whose shoulders we stand on today,” says Tofilau.

Tofilau says the strong leadership provided by Pasifika women, have been at the forefront of local and national projects including breast screening, rheumatic fever, anti-violence, educational programmes, political forums and other projects that build strong resilient women and communities.

She prays the legacy of P.A.C.I.F.C.A Inc will continue into the future.

"We have three generations of Pasifika women, it started with their grand mothers, then it was their mothers and now it's the daughters and the granddaughters, so it's really encouraging that the organisation has a strong foundation."
