Pacific people are among the country's most rapidly growing populations.
Demographic experts anticipate a hike in this year's census from the 2013 count, which showed Pacific people numbered just over 295,000.
Census 2018 general manager Denise McGregor projects Pacific numbers will reach half a million by 2030.
"It's growing quite rapidly and projected to continue to grow quite rapidly."
This year's census will also see a move towards digitalisation.
About four million Census Codes will be delivered to every household and business throughout the country before Census Day on March 6.
McGregor says the online format does away with the paper format, is a lot faster and more efficient.
"For 2018 we really move to a more modern online form, just because technology's moved on and we're able to do things smarter."
