Samoa PM says landslide may take weeks to clear

Samoa's Prime Minister says the landslide in Tuialamu Saleapaga caused by Cyclone Gita may take weeks to clear.

Tropical Cyclone Gita passed over Samoa as a category one storm but still caused major flooding and landslides.

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says he's never seen anything like it before.

"The landslides which accounted for the rocks and the soils that come in from the mountain area completely blocked the traffic and I think it could be some weeks before our heavy machinery could clear that landslide. It's a major one."

Tuilaepa is currently in Wellington for the Pacific Climate Change Conference.
