Samoan broadcaster: radio preferred medium for communities in the region

New digital technologies are changing how Pacific people receive information, but radio will still be number one especially for those in remote communities during national disasters says Samoa's Faiesea Lei Sam-Matafeo.

Matafeo, who leads Samoa TV One, is in Turkmenistan this week as the Pacific chair leading our region into the Asia Pacific annual Broadcasters meet.

She says Pacific broadcasters are able to see how Asia colleagues are using cutting edge digital technologies to help report the big story for all global newsrooms - climate change.

"With climate change, radio has become more relevant. The villages need to be reached out to especially during disasters and there's a great need for radio. That can never be diminished."
