A weekend press statement in English from Tonga's Prime Minister has confirmed there is no such policy.
However, the proposed plan laid out in a letter from the Minister of Education, still has many confused.
Taimi 'o Tonga editor and award-winning journalist Kalafi Moala says the Prime Minister's statement ignores and doesn't clearly reverse a controversial ban led by Education Minister Penisimani Fifita.
"We've had four or maybe five ministers that have been dismissed over the last couple of years because of policy differences," he says.
"So the big question is, what's going to happen? Are you going to dismiss the Minister of Education or are you going to lift the ban. There's definitely confusion."
Moala is a former media adviser to the Prime Minister and he says the Education Minister may be a longtime ally of 'Akilisi Pohiva, but with the policy clash of press statements, he now needs to watch his step.
