A senior Tongan nurse in Wellington has been recognised by Pasifika Futures for her role in improving the lives of Pacific families.
Violani 'Ilolahia Wills is Patron of the Tongan Nurses Association and is now one of four Pacific navigators in the Wellington Tongan Leaders Council (WTLC).
Project manager for the WTLC, Tae Tu'inukuafe, says Wills has helped to shape programmes on weight loss, healthy eating and fitness for the 240 families they serve in Wellington.
"She's been a registered nurse for more than 50 years," says Tu'inukuafe. "It's very important for us that our people are recognised at that level."

Tu'inukuafe says Tongan leaders in Wellington are now working together to tackle obesity, with programmes designed to save the next generation from health disorders.
"If we don't do it now, it'll be much harder in the next 20 or 30 years time."
