The ongoing debate in the Cook Islands over binge drinking, violent assaults, and youth culture has fired up again after two violent stabbings in Rarotonga over the past week.

A knife and broken bottle were used in two separate incidents outside Club Rehab. The nightspot is popular with tourists and locals.

One man is still recovering from critical injuries, Police have charged another young man in connection to one of the stabbings and more arrests have followed.

It's not the first time stabbings involving young men and alcohol have happened outside clubs after closing.

The latest incidents have brought back old debates around male violence, youth culture, and binge drinking in the Cook Islands.

Government's Youth Advisor Tuaine Manavaroa Jnr says any moves to add to what is already in place for youth, will be welcome.

He says stakeholder meetings being planned will include a search for ideas to tackle the youth violence trend.
