Health authorities are urging Pacific families planning to travel overseas to ensure they are immunised against mumps.
Auckland is dealing with the largest outbreak of mumps in more than two decades, with 740 cases since January.
Public health specialist Dr. David Sinclair says this year's outbreak still has a way to go.
"Mumps outbreaks like this go on for a long time, I think it's still got a number of months to go because it's quite a slow infection," he says.
"The main thing is ensuring people are immunised. Younger children are generally protected but young adults, from high school onwards are less likely to be protected."
